Det är skadesituationen (senast en höftoperation hösten 2022) som får Bäckström att ta time out. På åtta matcher i år har han noterat noll mål och en assist. Naturligtvis ej den enormt höga standard som "Bäckis" visat hockeyvärlden i många år då han totalt gjort 1 033 poäng under 17 säsonger. På meritlistan finns såväl två VM-guld som Stanley Cup-titeln och ett OS-silver.
